Yarra Trams and Metro Trains miss January performance targets
Passengers may be able to claim compensation
As with all Public Transport Victoria operators, Metro Trains and Yarra Trams performance is measured each month for reliability and punctuality. Compensation in the form of a free daily ticket* is offered when the trams and trains don’t meet either or both of these targets.
In January, both Metro Trains and Yarra Trams failed to meet their reliability targets for the month.
Yarra Trams has a reliability result of 97.1% in January against a target of 98.5%. Metro Trains has a reliability result of 97.98% in January against a target of 98%. This is the sixth month in a row Yarra Trams has failed its performance targets.
It is important to us at the PTO that the process of claiming compensation is fair for everyone. Last month, Ombudsman Treasure Jennings wrote to Yarra Trams and Metro Trains requesting they both extend the date that people could make a claim, after the performance results were published late. Performance results are supposed to be published around the 10th day of the month.
Ombudsman Jennings recently wrote about the Importance of Fairness in her blog, and how complaints to the PTO office can help to improve Victoria’s public transport system, making it fairer and better for everybody.
Anyone with a Myki pass valid for 28 days or more that used those services in January can make a claim for compensation. Claims can be made online at the operator’s websites. Screengrabs of their compensation forms below.
